a) At the drop of a hat
【意思】Immediately, without delay or hesitation; suddenly, without any planning and for no obvious reason. 一有信号马上就可以行动；毫不迟疑；（脾气很暴燥的人）一触即发
【语源】At the drop of a hat从字面上来解释就是：一旦帽子落地。这实际上也是一个信号的意思。也就是说，一有信号就马上行动。这个说法可能是来自以前的决斗。在决斗的时候，裁判员一般都是举着帽子，然后突然把它往地下一扔，作为决斗双方可以开始开枪的信号。
【例句】We were ready to pack our bags and go on vacation at the drop of a hat.
I've got great friends.  They're ready to help out at the drop of a hat.
----“ Would you travel around the world if you had the money?”
---- "At the drop of a hat."
He was in such a bad mood that I was afraid he would hit his defiant wife at the drop of a hat.
He'd buy her expensive clothing at the drop of a hat and worry about how he would pay for it later.


b) Stand the test of time
【意思】To remain useful or valued over a long period of time; to last a long time. 经得住时间的考验；经久不衰
【例句】The Adirondack chair is a proven design that has stood the test of time.
Look for software that has stood the test of time, not something new and unproven.
The teaching method has stood the test of time.  It is still used in schools today.

这里取的是without delay or hesitation之意。句子做了一个对比：我不喜欢演讲，但是演讲对她来说丝毫不是问题－－她可以毫不迟疑地上台开说。
